Description: Dune Lankard, an Eyak native ancestraly from Cordova, Alaska, will visit Fort Lewis to speak on his perspective on building resilient communities. Dune grew up in a commercial fishing family in Cordova. He fished for wild salmon in the Copper River flats and Prince William Sound until march 24, 1989 - when the Exxon Valdez crashed into Bligh Reef, spewing over 30 plus million gallons of crude oil into the sound. He became a community activitist that day, and has been fighting to preserve salmon habitat and traditional culture ever since. Dune is the founder and board chair of the Eyak Preservation Council and the Native Conservancy Land Trust.
