Mark Hayden has been a copy editor and page designer for The Durango Herald since June 2011. Before coming to Durango, he worked at The Molokai Dispatch on the island of Molokai as a reporter intern. Before that, he taught English as a Second Language in Gwangju, South Korea for a year and a half. While he was there, he wrote for several English-based publications as well as a weekly script about Korean culture for an English-broadcast radio station. In 2008, he graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a bachelor's in journalism and a minor in political science. While in college, he freelanced articles about Sheryl Crow, Incubus and several other music acts for The Honolulu Advertiser and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin. He's originally from York, Neb., and the youngest of nine children. He especially enjoys music, reading, traveling, new cultures and the outdoors.
