The Durango Freestyle Ski Team competed in the United States Ski Association (USSA) Rocky Mountain Divisional Championships at Crested Butte last weekend.
The event included the top USSA freestyle halfpipe, slopestyle ans aerialist skiers from across the state.
USSA is the national governing body, and the Divisional Championships set the points list for the Junior Olympics, scheduled for Steamboat Springs in March.
Ellen Southworth led Durango Freestyle in the halfpipe competition, posting two third-place finishes on the opening day.
Jamie Wanzek took third for J2s (ages 15-16), and Jenna Mulligan posted third-place finishes for J1 (ages 17-19).
Hannah Smith won the J3 (ages 13-14) category. Teammates Meredith Nass and Natalie Lyon each earned silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Sadie Smith won the girls J4 (11-12) category.
Shane Ellis led the Durango boys, posting two wins in J4 and 10th and 11th placements in halfpipe.
Kelsey Jordan posted two fourth-place finishes, followed by teammate Nathan Youssef in fifth in the J2 category.
Saturday brought lots of snow and a very difficult slopestyle event.
Nass had impressive showings with two sixth-place results and two wins in J3s.
Lyon followed in second, with Smith third.
Smith and Ellis each won the J4 divisions.
Jordan took two fourths. Wanzek and Southworth finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The final day was the Purgatory air show, as Purgatory and Aspen squared off as the only teams in the competition.
Mulligan posted two first-place overall finishes in aerials. She will be out to retain her state crown as the top combined skier in halfpipe, mogul and aerials.
Wanzek was second.
Jordan won divisional aerials, throwing a newly certified back-tuck flip.
Ellis won overall aerials in the qualifying competition, and Smith took second for girls in the qualifier.
Southworth and Lyon earned bronze medals.
Youssef took fourth, with Nass and Smith in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Next up for the team will be a USSA moguls event at Arapahoe Basin on Saturday and Sunday.
