Speak up now about Colorado television

It is not to late to make our voices heard on the issue of Colorado TV access for La Plata and Montezuma Counties. You may file a comment or reply to a comment already on file until Feb. 22. Comments that are responsive to the public notice are the most helpful.

Read the public notice at www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releas es/Daily_Business/2010/db1123/DA-10-2227A1.pdf.

There are three alternatives. One would define DMAs in geographic markets of the states. Another would divide up each state into multiple markets based on the stations covering different portions of each state. The third would be to retain the 210 DMAs but modify them so that they do not cross state lines. The first or third alternative would probably give us Denver or at least Grand Junction TV, but I’m not sure if the second would help us at all.

The FCC is also asking for comments on other alternatives if you can think of any. Most important for us is they want to know what the effect of the alternatives would be on viewers.

If you wish to read the comments in order to reply to one, go to http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/ecfs/, click on “search for filings”, fill in 10-238 in the “proceedings” box and click on “search for comments” at the bottom. You don’t need to fill in the other boxes.

Go to www.fcc.gov/cgb/ecfs. To file a reply or comment: Click on “summit a filing” on the left side of the page. Enter No. 10-238 in the “preceeding” box. Enter your name and email in the “Contact Info” box. In the “Details” section pull down to “comment” or “reply” or “reply to comments”in the type of filing box, you don’t need a file number unless that’s the way you list your own files. In the “Address” section, you are the “filer.”

Write your comments in a file on your computer – “pdf” format works best – then attach that file and you’re done.

If you prefer to mail your replies or comments, send them to FCC Headquarters, 445 12th St., SW, Washington, DC 20554.
