Durango’s freeriders are headed to the national championships.
Ty MacGuffie and Jamie Wanzek of Durango Freestyle qualified for the USASA Freeride Nationals at Copper Mountain in April.
The two Durango Freestyle Park and Pipe Team members secured spots by winning their second consecutive slopestyle events last weekend at Crested Butte.
The event included the top USASA freestyle halfpipe and slopestyle skiers from Purgatory, Crested Butte and Telluride.
USASA is the national governing body for snowboarding and freeride competitions in the United States.
This event is part of the Southwest Colorado Series.
With two wins each in the series, MacGuffie and Wanzek will represent Durango in the finals at Copper Mountain.
On the bubble for the national team are bothers Hank and Nolan Stowers.
Hank Stowers won the 16-18 age division for slopestyle, and Nolan Stowers posted second-place finishes for ages 13-15 in both slopestyle and halfpipe.
Chance Conaty put himself in national contention with a third-place showing for ages 13-15.
Parker Norvell took fifth place with Brodie Hall in seventh and Toby Goldman in ninth.
Cole Korte took second-place honors for ages 16-18, which keeps his hopes alive for a shot at reaching the national finals.
James Shahan managed a fourth-place finish
“This was really a great event for both Ty and Jamie,” said J.C. Jones, head coach of the Durango Freestyle Park and Pipe program.
“Hank and Nolan are still in great positions to make it to the finals. Cole and Chance still have an outside chance to make it,” Jones said.
The four will have an opportunity to earn additional points toward nationals at the final Southwest Colorado Series slopestyle event in Telluride on Sunday.
