Nature Studies to offer river program
Durango Nature Studies will hold “river days” from 9 a.m. to noon today, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 at the Durango Nature Center.
The program is open to children ages 8 to 12 and costs $35 per day. Participants will be able to float in the Florida River, “stream tromp” and learn about aquatic wildlife.

Writing group to meet at senior center
“Memoirs,” a writing group, will meet at 1:15 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the Durango-La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Benefit for local child to be held Sunday
A benefit for DeAnne Wells will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Billy Goat Saloon, 39848 U.S. Highway 160 in Gem Village.
There will be music by the Jelly Belly Boogie Band, a barbecue and a silent auction.
All proceeds will help cover the family’s out-of-pocket expenses for the treatment of DeAnne’s brain tumor. Her second brain surgery is scheduled for July 28 in Denver.
DeAnne, 4, is the daughter of David and Delilah Wells and the granddaughter of Yvonne Lashmett and Dave Wells.

Online school to hold information session
Southwest Colorado eSchool will hold a free information session at 6 p.m. Monday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Participants will learn about the accredited online diploma-granting high school.

Free beekeeping class to be offered Tuesday
Minna Jain will present a free class about beekeeping called “Beekeeping with Top Bar Hives” from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday on the Durango Natural Foods patio, 575 East Eighth Ave.

Indian cooking class to be held in Bayfield
The “Foods of India Cooking Class” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
The class will be taught by Molly Arms, who learned about Indian cooking when she lived there during college. The public is welcome to this free event. Advance sign-up is appreciated.
