For just its first swim of the fall season, the Durango Swim Club appears in midseason form.
“For this early in the season, we had some outstanding swims,” DSC coach Suzanne Schieltz said in a news release to The Durango Herald.
Lacey Hoselton, 11, won most of her heats Saturday and Sunday in Aspen “by a few body lengths,” Schieltz said. She won the 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 free.
Ben Miller, 13, finished second in the 400 IM and fourth in the 100 butterfly, “but his best event was the 200 back where he dropped 6 seconds off his best time, quite an accomplishment at 8,000 feet,” said Schieltz, referring to Aspen’s elevation, which is 7,890 feet, more than 1,000 feet higher than Durango.
Berr Kilgo, who recently did a Waikiki roughwater swim in Oahu, Hawaii, finished second in the 200 and 500 free. The 12-year-old is the son of Bob and Lynn Kilgo.
Steevie Delio finished second in the 50 fly and 200 free, third in the 50 and 100 free and fourth in the 500 free. Deelio, 10, is the daughter of Ray and Melissa Delio.
Haley Benjamin, just a six-month veteran with the club, “is improving so rapidly; she will be a great swimmer,” Schieltz said. She finished fifth in the 100 free, ninth in the 50 fly, 50 backstroke and 100 back. Benjamin, 11, is the daughter of Gwen and Arin Benjamin.
Oskar Searfus took the summer off, then returned to with “some excellent swims” in the 200 free, 200 breast and 50 back. Searfus, 12, is the son of Kiki Searfus.
