I don’t know about you, but I cannot imagine driving to Farmington (or Cortez or Montrose) because I can’t get a free plastic bag at a Durango store. Let’s do that math: gas at $3.40 x 25 mpg x 50 miles = $6.80. At five cents a bag, that would equal 136 bags of groceries. If I were buying that much stuff, I’d probably just go to Sam’s Club. Oh, but wait: They don’t offer free plastic bags. Hmm. Given the number of Durangoans I see at Sam’s in Farmington, I guess that’s really not a concern.
