Allergy preparation class to be held Tuesday at Zuke’s

The free class “Preparing for Spring Allergy Season” will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zuke’s, 2257 Main Ave.

Specific topics include: what allergies are, contributing factors, prevention through herbs and diet, and dealing with an allergy attack. Space is limited.

Garden Club of Durango to meet Wednesday

The Garden Club of Durango will host a program by Southwest Seeds of Cortez at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The Henes family business has provided native seeds for 40 years to area landscapers and gardeners, preserving some 300 native species. The Henes will tell their story of how a passion was turned into a successful business.

Archaeological Society to meet Thursday at FLC

The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Chapter President Andrew Gulliford will discuss “The Mimbres People: Master Potters of the Southwest.” As the former director of the Western New Mexico University Museum in Silver City, Gulliford curated the largest permanent exhibition of Mimbres pottery in the world.

He will discuss the Mimbres people, their pottery and rock art, and show slides of modern potters who have learned to replicate Mimbres designs to try to reduce pot-hunting in southwest New Mexico. The public is invited.

All offices of La Plata County will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, except these:

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office at the Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 U.S. Highway 160B in Bayfield, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Clerk and Recorder’s Motor Vehicle Unit, 98 Everett St., Suite A, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Clerk and Recorder’s Document Recording Unit, 98 Everett St., Suite C, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Treasurer’s Office, 1060 Main Ave., Suite 103, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Veteran’s Service Office, 1970 East Third Ave., Suite 102, will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Sheriff’s Office, 742 Turner Drive, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The Planning Department will now be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
