Daniel William Clauson

Bayfield resident Daniel William Clauson died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, in Gallina, N.M. The cause of death is undetermined at this time. He was 54. His brother, Douglas Clauson, died two days earlier.

Mr. Clauson was born to Robert Delano and Patricia Lee Clauson on July 2, 1957, in Tulsa, Okla. The Clauson family moved to Durango in 1966. Mr. Clauson graduated from Durango High School in the mid-1970s and took some classes at Fort Lewis College. He lived most of his life in the Four Corners.

Mr. Clauson served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.

In the early 1980s, he married Renee Louise Jackson in Durango.

He worked in lumber and hardware sales for many years, including UBC in Durango and Lewis True Value in Bayfield. He retired because of illness in 2009.

Mr. Clauson was always an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hiking, camping and four-wheeling. Like everyone in the Clauson family, he was an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Mr. Clauson is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Renee Louise Jackson Clauson, of Bayfield; son, Douglas William Clauson, of Bayfield; daughter, Erica Lee Clauson, of Durango; sister, Laura Lea Clauson, of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

The family will be celebrating the lives of both Daniel and Douglas Clauson from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Christina’s Grill & Bar, 21382 U.S. Highway 160, and invite friends to join them there.
