Two die in collision on U.S. Highway 160

Two women were killed Thursday afternoon when the car they were riding in collided with a semi-tractor trailer on U.S. Highway 160 about three miles west of Alamosa.

At 4:42 p.m., Colorado State Patrol received a call that a 2006 Saturn Ion collided with a 2007 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, said Nate Reid, public information officer with the Colorado State Patrol.

Jolene Ford, 44, of Colorado Springs, was driving westbound in the Saturn when her vehicle slid on ice and lost control, Reid said. The Saturn swerved into the eastbound lane and struck the right side of the tractor trailer, driven by Steven Templeton, 46, of Arkansas, Reid said.

Both Ford and her passenger, Jean Ford, 51, of Taos, N.M., died at the scene, Reid said. Templeton was not injured, he said.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash, which is still under investigation.
