Financial future series to be held

The La Plata County Extension Office will hold “Legally Secure Your Financial Future” from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 13, 21 and 28 at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.

The course will help people organize important documents and records; understand legal wills, trusts and advance directives; and set up property and assets correctly to be properly distributed to heirs.

The cost is $50 for the series of three or $20 per individual class. Preregistration is required

Sweetheart Dance to be held Saturday

Council No. 1408 of the Knights of Columbus will host its annual Sweetheart Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday in the St. Columba School Gymnasium, 1801 East Third Ave.

Music will be provided by “Sounds in Motion.” Free snacks and refreshments will be served and all will be eligible to participate in a silent auction. A cash bar also will be available. The dance is open to the public and the cost is $10 per person. Children are welcome.

Republican precinct caucuses to be held

Republican precinct caucuses for the 2012 election cycle will take place Tuesday.

To participate in the caucus, voters must have been affiliated with the Republican Party by Dec. 7, 2011, registered to vote by Jan. 9, 2012, and a resident of the precinct for 30 days.

At the caucus, people will elect precinct chairpeople and delegates and alternates to the County Assembly, vote a straw poll for presidential candidates, advance resolutions and enlist poll judges.

Knitting group to meet Feb. 14

Durango Mad Hatters will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at Yarn Durango, 755 East Second. Ave., for its regular open knit time, which is the second Tuesday of each month.

Crocheters are welcome. People interested in learning how to make hats for newborns at Mercy Regional Medical Center are invited. Free patterns and help will be available.
