Ignacio resident Jimmy Dondi Paul died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. He was 43. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Mr. Paul was born to Avalina Paul and Jim Box Sr., on April 14, 1968, in Durango. He attended Ignacio schools and went on to earn his GED diploma while with Job Corps in Riverside, Calif.
Mr. Paul was an enrolled member of the Southern Ute Tribe.
He had a daughter with Tara Vigil.
Mr. Paul did various construction jobs in his youth.
As he was growing up, he enjoyed fishing and riding his dirt bikes and four-wheelers. He also enjoyed hanging out with his “bros” and his family, listening to music, especially rock and oldies, and rooting for the Denver Broncos.
Mr. Paul is survived by his only child, Jalisa Raven Paul, of Ignacio; siblings Deadra Contreras of Ignacio, Izreal Contreras of Minnesota, Jim Box Jr., and Curtis Paul; companion of nine years, Roberta Dennison, of Bloomfield, N.M.; one grandson; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A rosary was recited Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East Third Ave., in Durango. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Southern Ute Memorial Chapel, 258 Ute Road in Ignacio. Deacon Larry Tucker will officiate. Burial will occur at Ignacio West Cemetery. A dinner will be held after at the Southern Ute Multi-Purpose Building in Ignacio.
