Escalante students named to Honor Band

These Escalante Middle School students recently were selected through an audition process to participate in the Fort Lewis College Honor Band: Vanessa Begay, Orion Clay, Dennis Costello, Kathleen Duft, Zachary Geauthreaux, Robert Grogan, Jarrod Mayer, Javier Quezada and Jordan Shefferd.

The band performed last weekend at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.

Ignacio High School announces honor roll

Animas Valley receives improvement award

Durango School District 9-R has been notified by the Colorado Department of Education that Animas Valley Elementary has received the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award for 2011.

The Colorado Department of Education recognizes schools that have demonstrated exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, Animas Valley Elementary exceeded expectations on its indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and met or exceeded expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. District and school performance framework reports provide a snapshot of the district or school’s level of attainment on academic achievement, growth, growth gaps and postsecondary readiness.

Megan Lane named to dean’s list

Megan Lane of Durango, a senior School of Nursing student at Creighton University, was named to the fall dean’s list for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Full-time students who earn a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the dean’s honor roll.

Creighton University is located in Omaha, Neb.

BHS grad named to dean’s list

Danny Calderwood, Bayfield High School Class of 2011, recently was named to the dean’s list at Colby Community College in Colby, Kan.

Calderwood is majoring in animal science and is the son of Todd and Cathy Calderwood of Ignacio.

Tory Scott named to dean’s list

Tory Scott of Durango was one of 358 undergraduates named to Denison University’s 2011 fall semester dean’s list.

Students who achieve dean’s list status have maintained a grade-point average of 3.7 or better for the semester.

Scott is a member of the Denison class of 2015.

Denison University is located in Granville, Ohio.

Sarah Lockwood named to dean’s list

Sarah Lockwood of Durango, a member of the class of 2013, was named to Tufts University’s dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester.

Dean’s list honors require a semester grade-point average of 3.4 or greater.

Tufts University is located in Medford, Mass.

Benjamin Harclerode named to dean’s list

Benjamin Harclerode of Cortez was recognized for outstanding academic accomplishments by being named to the LeTourneau University dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester.

Harclerode achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester.

LeTourneau University is located in Longview, Texas.

Katie Dudley receives perfect score on ACT

Katie Dudley, daughter of Ed and Karla Dudley and a junior at Durango High School, earned a top composite score of 36 on a recent ACT test.

About one-tenth of one percent nationally receive a top score.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.

ACT test scores are accepted by all major U.S. colleges.

Florida Mesa names Citizens of Month

Florida Mesa Elementary School named these students Citizens of the Month for January: Kimber Brown, Ty Woodson, Sean Zimmerman, Alexa Vaughan, Tianna Ey, Oren Moore, Hannah Stratton, Alida Leidy, Kaylyn LaSage, Delano Garcia, Sophia Hardesty, Sebastian Carlson, Sydney Standridge, Anthony Blue, Steven Jackson, Caleb Brown, Quinn Hoover and Cody Bryant.
