Former Durango resident Santo Caputa died from a massive brain aneurysm Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at his home in Minneapolis. He was 31.
Mr. Caputa was born to Charles and Laurie Caputa on May 13, 1980, in Durango. He grew up here and graduated from Durango High School in 1999. While at DHS, he played basketball on the varsity team.
Later that year, Mr. Caputa joined the Marine Corps. After spending four years in the military, he returned to Durango.
Continuing with his love of basketball, Mr. Caputa coached a girls’ basketball team at Miller Middle School from 2004 to 2005.
He later moved to Minneapolis and began working as a computer technician.
On April 18, 2009, Mr. Caputa married Kristin Lay in Minneapolis.
Mr. Caputa is survived by his wife of almost three years, Kristin Caputa, of Minneapolis; daughter, Reiley Caputa, of Minneapolis; parents, Charles and Laurie Caputa, of Durango; brother, Nicholas Caputa, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Nina Caputa, of Augusta, Ga.; and grandmother Patti Rancatti of Durango; grandfather Carmen Caputa of Milwaukee; aunts, uncles and other family members.

The family will host an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at 359 Jenkins Ranch Road in Durango, to share memories and celebrate Mr. Caputa’s life.
