The Art of the Drum

TAO, called “rock stars” in the world of Taiko traditional Japanese drumming, will perform “The Art of the Drum” at 7 p.m. Monday at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. The show combines remarkable athleticism, extravagant costuming and Japan’s best Taiko drummers. The group trains in the Aso-Juju National Park in a mountain compound where their daily routine includes a pre-dawn walk, running, martial arts, drumming and dance.

Tickets cost $25-$40, available online at www.durangoconcerts.com, by phone at 247-7657 or at the downtown box office at Seventh Street and Main Avenue. Visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlG5asr3D7Y&feature=related to see the group in action.
