Durango resident Shirley Ann Robbins died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, in Durango. She was 68.
Mrs. Robbins was born to Joe and Constance Archuleta Cordova on May 4, 1943, in Florence. She grew up there, moved to Wyoming for 16 years, then moved back to Florence for 19 years. She had lived in Durango for the last 12 years.
In March 1963, she married John Ramirez. The marriage ended in divorce in 1970.
Mrs. Robbins worked as a licensed practical nurse.
In the mid-1980s, she married her longtime companion, Dennis “Joe” Robbins in Cañon City.
She enjoyed reading her Bible, tending her garden and flowers and cooking and baking for others.
“She loved, and was devoted to, caring for others,” her family said. “Shirley was a compassionate and giving soul and found joy in her family, her friends and her faith. Shirley had the special and unique gift to bring light and inspiration to those who were blessed to have known her wonderful and cheerful personality.”
Mrs. Robbins was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Dennis Robbins.
She is survived by her children John Ramirez, Victor Ramirez and Theresa Ramirez, all of Durango; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Feb. 17, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East Third Ave.
