Har Shalom to hold Jewish musician presentation

“Jewish Characters of Music/Music of Jewish Character” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 29 at Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203.

Daniel Morgenstern will lead the presentation. Morgenstern earned two degrees in music, was a fellow of the Aspen Music Festival and served as principal flutist of the Jerusalem Symphony in 1974-75. He will make a PowerPoint presentation on the great Jewish characters of classical, Broadway, song and film.

There will be a dessert potluck; people unable to bring a dessert may give a $5 donation.

Youth group to host pancake supper

The youth group of Calvary Presbyterian Church will host a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, located in downtown Bayfield on the corner of Mill and Church streets.

Shrove Tuesday is also known as Fat Tuesday or the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally in Scottish and English households, this was a time to clean out the cupboards before the beginning of Lent and eat pancakes.

Ash Wednesday services to be held in Ignacio

St. Ignatius Church in Ignacio will host Ash Wednesday services at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 15449 Colorado Highway 172.

Pagosa churches announce Lenten schedules

The Immaculate Heart of Mary, 451 Lewis St. in Pagosa Springs, and Pope John Paul II Catholic Church, 353 South Pagosa Blvd. in Pagosa Springs, will hold this Lenten schedule:

Ash Wednesday Masses will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pope John Paul II and at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Stations of the Cross will be held at 4 p.m. Fridays during Lent followed by a Knights of Columbus fish fry in the Parish Hall.

Penance Service will be held at 6 p.m. March 1 at Pope John Paul II.

World Day of Prayer and a presentation about the women of Malaysia will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 2 at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 225 South Pagosa Blvd. in Pagosa Springs. Soup, salad and dessert will be served.

The Men’s Fellowship will present a Catholicism video series from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays during Lent in the narthex of the Pope John Paul II church.

A Lifeguard Prayer Vigil will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays at Durango Lifeguard, 555 South Camino del Rio.

A Bible Study on Acts will be held from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Fridays in the narthex.

The Charismatic Prayer Group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays in the narthex.

A pilgrimage to San Luis and Chimayo will be held March 27, 28.

Documentary about bees to be shown Friday

Centers of Light will present Conscious Movie Night with a showing of “Vanishing of the Bees” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sophia Peace Center, 19581 Road 31 in Dolores.

This documentary details the economic, political and ecological consequences of a dwindling world honeybee population. All donations will go to support American Bee Keeping Association, a national organization working to ensure the future of the honeybee.
