Flint adds four to Fort Lewis XC

Herald Staff Report

Fort Lewis College head cross country coach Ken Flint added four more runners to his women’s team for the fall.

Alyssa Carman, Amber Crewse, Rhea Gillespie and Emily White all recently committed to the FLC running program.

Carman – 20th at the Class 4A state meet in 20 minutes, 15 seconds – is a Discovery Canyon High School (Colorado Springs) alumna.

“She has a passion for cross country and a competitive spirit that is contagious,” Flint said in a news release.

Crewse is a Lakewood native who was a one-year letterwinner in cross country at Green Mountain High School.

“Amber comes from more of a sprinter’s background and is relatively new to competitive cross country running,” Flint said. “As she gains more experience racing at the longer distances, I expect Amber to surprise some people.”

Gillespie was a three-sport athlete at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho. She finished 26th at the Idaho 4A state meet as a junior.

“She has the potential to be a scorer on our team once she adjusts to the demands of training and racing at the college level,” Flint said.

White was a four-sport athlete at Green Mountain in Lakewood. She was an all-conference performer in cross country.

“I see Emily being a successful runner at the NCAA Division II level as she understands the commitment it takes to be your best,” Flint said.
