N.M. man shot at local motel

Albuquerque man arrested on Sunday in connection with Durango shooting

Durango police arrested an Albuquerque man early Sunday morning for shooting a man in the leg at the Durango Downtown Inn.

Local authorities are holding Alexander Kilmer, 22, at the La Plata County jail on three felony charges and one misdemeanor, including criminal attempt of second-degree murder, according to a news release issued Sunday by Lt. Ray Shupe of the Durango Police Department.

Police responded to the shooting after getting a call early Sunday morning that said Mark Goodnoh, 24, of Farmington had suffered a gunshot to his lower leg, the release said.

Goodnoh was staying in a hotel room with his friend Josh Richardson, 22, of Farmington. They met Kilmer and his friends, Sean Johnson, 22, and Richard Dotson, 21, both of Albuquerque, in the hotel pool area earlier that night, the release said.

Goodnoh and Kilmer were in Kilmer’s room, where the group had been drinking alcohol and using drugs when the two got into an argument, the release said.

During the argument, Kilmer pulled out a handgun and ordered Goodnoh and Richardson out of the room, the release said.

Once Goodnoh was in the hallway, Kilmer made a comment, which prompted Goodnoh to turn and begin walking back toward the room, at which point Kilmer shot Goodnoh, the release said.

After responding to Goodnoh, police went to Kilmer’s room on the second floor where they recovered a .380 semi-automatic handgun, the release said.

Police arrested Kilmer, who is being charged with criminal attempt of second-degree murder, a Class 3 felony; first-degree assault, a Class 3 felony; menacing, a Class 6 felony; and prohibited use of a weapon, a Class 2 misdemeanor. His bond is set at $25,000.

Goodnoh was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center. David Bruzzese, spokesman at Mercy, said Goodnoh was treated and released Sunday.
