Durango Mountain Resort to modify its lift hours

Ski area adjusts to daylight saving, season to end April 1

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is adjusting its hours of lift operations beginning Sunday for daylight saving time.

“Skiers and riders can now take advantage of the longer days and enjoy the slopes in the prime condition,” ski area spokeswoman Kim Oyler said.

Lift 1, also known as “the six-pack” for its six-person capacity, will operate an extra 30 minutes, until 4:30 p.m., from Sunday to March 18. All other lifts will close at the normal time, 4 p.m.

Starting March 19, the ski area will shift operating hours to 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The backside of the mountain will close at 4 p.m.

Regular-season operations will cease on April 1.

The adjusted operating hours “will provide a better skiing and riding experience for guests as the time shift better allows the warmth of the spring sun to soften the snow into great conditions,” Oyler said in a press release Friday.

If conditions permit, Purgatory will open for weekends only in April, Oyler said.
