This year’s ski season is dwindling fast as the warming weather heralds the approach of spring.

Matt Morrissey, the recreation supervisor for Chapman Hill, said successive 60-degree days melted much of its base. Today from 4 to 8 p.m. will be its final operating hours for the season.

Ski Hesperus closed for the season Monday.

The last day of the regular season at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is April 1. If weather permits, the ski area will remain open Friday to Sunday through April.

“We still have a very good base, and the slope conditions are really great for spring skiing and snowboarding,” said Kim Oyler, the director of communications for Durango Mountain Resort.

On March 25, DMR will hold the last “Locals Day” of the season to celebrate the final days of the regular season, Oyler said.

With a Locals Day coupon, available in the Durango Telegraph and on www.durangodevo.com, adults can buy a lift ticket for $40, $32 for students and seniors, and $25 for kids younger than 12. Part of the proceeds will go to Durango DEVO, a nonprofit Durango organization that offers bicycle camps for ages 5 to 25.

Wolf Creek Ski area will remain open seven days a week through April 8, said Rosanne Pitcher, vice president of marketing and sales for the ski area.

Wolf Creek will open for weekends, Friday through Sunday, through April “only if there is significant snowfall,” Pitcher said.

“If there is a really substantial storm, we will open at the drop of a hat,” she said.

Wolf Creek Ski area will announce special opening through their website www.wolfcreekski.com
