Vicky M. Drover died Monday, March 19, 2012, at her home in Surprise, Ariz. She was 69.

Mrs. Drover was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Wichita, Kan. to Harold and Mary Wampler. In 1953 she moved with her family to Durango, where she finished junior high school and graduated from Durango High School in 1960.

Mrs. Drover attended Northern Colorado University in Greeley and graduated with a bachelor of arts in education in 1965. She later returned to Durango where she worked in the Head Start Program and taught third grade at Riverview Elementary School.

While in Durango Mrs. Drover met Robert Drover, who was attending Fort Lewis College after serving in the U.S. Air Force. The couple married at St. Columba Catholic Parish and School on Aug. 21, 1967.

A year later, in Aug. 1968, Mr. and Mrs. Drover moved to Laramie, Wyo. One year after that, the couple moved again to Phoenix. They have continued to live in the Phoenix area for the last 43 years.

Even after leaving Durango, Mrs. Drover and her two sons spent many summers at a cabin near Lemon Reservoir.

“During all these years she has been a loving mother to Eric and Christopher,” her family said. “Vicky loves people, all kinds of animals, the serenity of the Colorado Mountains, and her family.”

Mrs. Drover is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert (Bob) Drover of Surprise, Ariz.; sons Christopher Drover of Peoria, Ariz. and Eric Drover of McMinnville, Ore.; as well as four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, in the Church Hall at the St. Clare of Asissi Catholic Church, 17111 West Bell Road Surprise, Ariz., 85374.
