Elizabeth Jane Mantey died Friday, March 30, 2012, at her home in Oxford from cancer. She was 74.
Mrs. Mantey was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Newark, N.J., to Joseph and Jane (McGuigan) Pinaud.
She became a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, N.J., and studied at the Catholic Maternity Institute in Santa Fe, where she became a certified nurse midwife in 1971.
Mrs. Mantey was part of the medical Mission Sisters Team that started Holy Family Hospital, the first integrated hospital in Atlanta. She later worked at Tri-County Health Department, University of Colorado Hospital and Mercy Hospital, all in Denver.
On Dec. 28, 1969, Mrs. Mantey married Bernard Mantey at their home in Denver.
The couple moved to Oxford in 1979.
Mrs. Mantey was preceded in death by her children Monica Marie Mantey, Damien Mantey and Xuan Mantey.
She is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Bernard Mantey; sons Kris Mantey of Surprise, Ariz., and Tim Mantey and Todd Mantey, both of Aurora; adopted daughter Kate Casey of Puerto Mount, Chile; sister Marilyn Pinaud of Nederland; and several extended family members.
A rosary will be recited Monday, April 2, 2012, at 7 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 10 a.m., also at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. The Rev. Douglas Hung will officiate.
Burial will occur at Oxford Cemetery.
