Man killed in scooter accident

Victim, Kevin Bruce, 65, owned Professional Computer Solutions

A Durango man died Saturday evening on a low-powered scooter while he was pulled by an SUV.

At 5:35 p.m. Saturday, Kevin Bruce, 65, was riding a scooter in the northbound lane of East Animas Road (County Road 250), just north of Durango, said Nate Reid, a spokesman with the Colorado State Patrol in Denver.

Bruce’s scooter was being pulled by a 2010 Ford Explorer driven by his wife, Ann Bruce, 55, of Durango when Bruce lost control of the scooter, Reid said.

Bruce was ejected into the southbound lane, where he was struck by a 1969 Chevy 1500 pickup, Reid said.

Bruce was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he later died, Reid said.

Kevin Bruce owned Professional Computer Solutions in Durango.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not suspected to be factors in the accident, Reid said.

No information about citations was available Sunday.
