The Wolverines are kicking their way into uncharted territory.
The undefeated Bayfield High School girls soccer team improved to 6-0-0 on Tuesday with a dominating 8-0 win at Pagosa Springs.
“The team is looking good,” Bayfield head coach Jen Zelinski said. “This is the first time we’ve won at Pagosa in at least three years.”
She said the Wolverines started fast on the offensive attack.
Six different players scored the eight goals, Zelinski said.
“I think that shows our program is improving,” the Bayfield head coach said.
Sanna Penton and Effie Nistler each scored two goals for the Wolverines.
Single goals were scored by Breetta Moe, Chanel McCloskey, Keenan Moreta and Jaida Ross.
Jaylie Ross had four saves in goal as she collected the shutout for the Wolverines.
“I have to credit my defense. They really played well,” Zelinski said.
She said Pagosa is rebuilding this year with a first-year goalie.
The Wolverines will hit the road for for their next two soccer matches.
Bayfield will play at Salida at 4 p.m. Friday.
The Wolverines will play at Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
