With high water, responders prepare for rescues

As high water from spring runoff swirls around him, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority Lt. Brock Furston works with crews on the banks of the Animas River on Thursday during a swift-water rescue training course hosted by Southwest Rescue. The day’s training consisted of a rope-and-pulley system strung across the river near Smelter Rapid.
