Dorothy Mae Zook died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at her home in Durango. She was 84.
Mrs. Zook was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Grand Island, Neb., to Dean and Anna Brazelton. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from high school in 1945.
On Oct. 9, 1949, she married Earl L. Zook in Grand Island, Neb. The family moved to Durango from Russell, Kan., in 1957.
Mrs. Zook worked in Durango for 30 years as a secretary for Durango School District 9-R and in various medical offices.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing and reading.
“Dorothy especially enjoyed traveling with the gals of the family on their annual ‘girls’ week away,’” her family said. Some of the highlight locations included Cape Cod, Mass.; Sonoma, Calif.; Monterey Peninsula, Calif.; Nashville, Tenn.; and Newport, Ore.
“In honor of Dorothy, the ‘girls week away’ will continue,” her family said. “Dorothy will be remembered, as a wonderful wife, mother and grandparent.”
Mrs. Zook is survived by her husband of 63 years, Earl L. Zook, of Durango; daughter, Lynda Campbell, of Paonia; sons David Zook of Durango and Steven Zook of Fallbrook, Calif.; sister Betty Olson of Eau Clair, Wis.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Private family services are planned for a later date. Cremation will occur.
