Mortgage advice will be offered
Housing Solutions for the Southwest announces it is expanding its housing counseling services to assist homeowners who are unemployed in obtaining mortgage forbearance.
This program is designed to suspend or reduce monthly mortgage payments to an amount that is affordable for unemployed homeowners. The loan must be owned or backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, and the home must be the homeowner’s principal residence. Housing Solutions can help homeowners determine who the investor is on their mortgage. The unemployment must create a hardship that without forbearance might lead to foreclosure. However, there is no requirement that the mortgage be past due at the time of application. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not requiring lenders to get approval from them for the first six months of the forbearance plan. Forbearance does not forgive the debt.
