Bayfield junior Taylor Harrison (2) and the Wolverines will take their unbeaten record into today’s match against rival Ignacio. The teams will collide at 4 p.m. today at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.

One game, two game plans.

Regional rivals Ignacio and Bayfield will meet on the soccer pitch today in a nonconference match with two different agendas.

“Bayfield is very, very good,” Ignacio head coach Andrew Fenity said. “We know they are a very good team.”

The opportunity to play the unbeaten Wolverines is something the Ignacio players are excited about, Fenity said. The teams will play at 4 p.m. today at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.

“This is a good time for us to show against a good team,” Fenity said of the Bobcats, 1-5-0 on the season.

They are coming off a solid performance in a 4-0 loss to Pagosa Springs on Saturday, a match that pleased Fenity.

“I’m pleased with our progress,” he said of the fledgling Ignacio team.

“And our girls seem to take lot from the games (against Bayfield),” Fenity said.

While the Bobcats are looking at picking up experience against a top opponent, the mission for the Wolverines is a bit different.

Their job, according to head coach Jen Zelinski, is to focus on their play from the opening whistle.

“Hopefully, we can go in there with the same (intensity) we had (against Center),” Zelinski said after the Wolverines dispatched the Vikings 10-0 on Saturday to move to 8-0-0 on the season.

Senior striker Keenan Moreta led the Wolverines with a hat trick for the second consecutive match.

Senior teammate Sanna Penton, a foreign-exchange student from Sweden, also had a hat trick at Center. Sophomore Grave Harvey scored twice.

Single goals were scored by sophomore Effie Nistler and freshman Meaghan Mooney.

Jaylie Ross had the shutout in goal for Bayfield.

She’ll be challenged by Ignacio’s Abeth Okall and Destinee Lucero, among others.

Nicole Williams likely will draw the start today in goal for Ignacio. She’s coming off an ankle injury last weekend.

Both teams return to conference play next weekend.

Ignacio will play at Ridgway at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Bayfield will travel to Alamosa, also for an 11 a.m. match Saturday.
