Durango resident Michelle Katherine Berard died of cancer Friday, April 13, 2012, in Durango. She was 48.
Miss Berard was born to Robert L. and Mary P. Berard on Dec. 23, 1963, in Stevens Point, Wis. She grew up in Stevens Point.
She moved to Durango to be in the mountains she dearly loved, her family said. She had been living in the southwestern United States and Durango for more than 30 years.
Miss Berard was a massage therapist and life coach. She established and operated her own business, Mountain Sage, in 1998, in Durango.
“She thoroughly enjoyed hiking and exercise, and snow skiing was her passion,” her family said. “Michelle’s close-knit friends were a local ski group, lovingly called ‘The Posse.’ Her presence will be missed and celebrated at Durango Mountain Resort.”
Miss Berard is survived by her siblings Patti Anderson and Bob Berard, both of Stevens Point, Mick Berard of Lake Tomahawk, Wis., MiMi Berard of Wausau, Wis., Peggy Helz of Nashotah, Wis., Sue Ann Berard of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jeanette Goudaillier of Campbell, Calif., and Bill Berard of Edina, Minn.; 11 nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Durango. A private family memorial service will be held at the Berard summer home in northern Wisconsin at a later date.
