As the San Juan String Band performs for students at St. Columba school Friday morning Smokey the Bear dances kicking off this weekend's 18th annual Durango Bluegrass Meltdown. The band, made up of members of The National Forest Service performed as part of the Durango Meltdown's "Bluegrass in the Schools" program sponsored by the La Plata Electric Association Foundation.
The 18th annual Durango Bluegrass Meltdown kicked off Friday with the "Bluegrass in the schools" program which brought festival talent to nine local area school. The festival which runs through Sunday features bluegrass music throughout various local venues by many local, regional and nationally recognized bluegrass bands.
