Sexual assault hotline seeks volunteers
Volunteers are sought to be Crisis Hotline advocates for Sexual Assault Services Organization, or SASO.
Advocates empower and validate survivors and give guidance through the hospital, law enforcement and the criminal-justice system.
Free training by local experts will begin in early May. Applications are due today.

Book about stuttering now offered at library
The Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., has the book Advice to Those Who Stutter.
The book gives practical advice written by speech pathologists who themselves stutter, advising what helped them and what they believe will help others control their difficulty. Stuttering Foundation also offers brochures and DVDs about stuttering.

Hospice to host support group for caregivers
Hospice of Mercy will sponsor a free six-week support group for caregivers from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays starting May 10 in the downstairs conference room of The Commons Building, 701 Camino del Rio.
The group is for caregivers of people with chronic illnesses. Christie Moore from Hospice of Mercy and Elaine Stumpo from the Alzheimer’s Association will share techniques and resources for care giving.
The group is limited to eight people, and participants are asked to commit to the entire six-week session.

Grief workshop to be held at Mercy
Mercy Regional Medical Center is inviting those affected by loss to attend a workshop taught by certified bereavement counselor, teacher and author Mirabai Starr from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 in conference room A-B at Mercy.
Starr says she will lead attendees though a day of reflection and healing. A light lunch and snacks will be provided.
The cost is $35, and checks should be made payable to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
