Needham Elementary School fourth-graders bury notes with well-wishes on them for the newly planted swamp white oak. “Trees and Root Beer Are the Answer” was an event that combined tree-planting and treats for the students. Parent volunteer Paula Mills said last year the school planted seven trees in what is now known as the Pete Harter Arboretum, named after the school’s principal. This year, the school is planting 12 trees. “They actually get to see something grow and put it into the ground,” said Mills.
