Herald STaff Report

Durango native Sean Johnson signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Iowa Western Community College, the No. 1 ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Johnson, whose parents Lori and Michael Johnson live in Durango, attends Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs. Fountain Valley, however, doesn’t have a baseball team, so Johnson played for nearby Widefield High School.

The former Durango Area Youth Hockey Association star also played golf and hockey for Fountain Valley.

Johnson is a shortstop and a right-handed pitcher who throws a 91-mph fastball.

According to maxpreps.com, the 6-6, 190-pound player hit .467 his senior season, with a .515 on-base percentage and a .533 slugging percentage.
