Fort Lewis College graduate and the top American cyclist from the 2011 Tour de France Tom Danielson has a strategy for the USA Pro Cycling Race this summer: Live in the moment.
That and eat a lot of onions and jalapeños. His grandmother-in-law says that is the secret ingredient to his success in the Pro Challenge Spotlight Series, weekly webisodes that give behind-the-scenes looks at the competitors.
This week focused on Danielson, who gave the series a tour of his home in Boulder and talked about how he got into the sport.
Danielson led the Skyhawks to a national mountain biking team title in 2002 and finished ninth in his first Tour de France last year.
He also talked about his love for coffee and his own brand that names the blends after his favorite bike routes, including Durango’s own Iron Horse.
Danielson will be competing in the cycling race this summer for team Garmin-Cervelo and said the race redefined what a bike race in Colorado could look like.
Durango was awarded the first stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge that will begin in August.
