Two construction projects in unincorporated La Plata County could create delays for drivers in the coming weeks and months.
One construction project, covering slightly more than a half mile stretch of East Animas Road (County Road 250), began this week with drainage and utility work in the roadside ditches, a news release said. That work is expected to continue for the next two weeks between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The project will repave road and shoulders between 32nd Street and the La Plata Electric Association substation at 989 East Animas Road. The second phase of the project, the paving work, is expected to start in late June and take about four to five weeks to complete, officials said.
A second construction project, west of Durango, will add turn lanes on County Road 210 at the intersection with Wildcat Canyon Road (County Road 141). It is slated to begin Monday. That project will increase safety, officials said, and should be complete by June 13.
Working hours on County Road 210 also will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.
Both projects likely will create lane closures while work is under way, the news release said. Workers will try to reduce traffic delays during peak commuter hours, but transportation officials are warning drivers to plan for delays of up to 20 minutes in the construction areas.
