DMR increase hits oldest skiers hardest

Durango Mountain Resort’s decision to offer only one senior season pass for skiers ages 65 and older created a huge jump in cost for those aged 70 or older — from $149 to $399. The 62-65 senior group was given the consideration to be grandfathered in with only a $50 increase. By targeting the 70-plus group for this largest increase without any considerations seems unreasonable.

We would have understood some increase in price, but not $250, which makes the cost about three times this last year’s rate. We have been skiing many years at Purgatory, but we never imagined that the condition of getting older and staying healthy could be so devalued. Unfortunately, DMR is sending a message that it is no friend of seniors and may even be resentful of us.
