Durango is in the final running for “Beer City USA 2012,” hosted by the Examiner.com, a “go-to” website for craft-brewing aficionados. Locals and fans of Durango’s breweries are urged to cast a vote.
The Beer City competition was established by Charlie Papazian, author of The Complete Joy of Homebrewing and founder of the Great American Beer Festival, the American Homebrewers Association and the Association of Brewers.
“This competition showcases where craft beer has gone in the United States, and Durango ranks right up there,” said Kris Oyler, Steamworks Brewing Co. co-founder and board president of the Durango Area Tourism Office. “We have our work cut out for us in the voting because we are a small population compared to the many communities in the final.”
Beer drinkers can cast their vote at polldaddy.com/poll/6132829, but must do so before midnight May 13.
“Winning Beer City USA 2012 will guarantee Durango significant national and even international notoriety,” Oyler said.
