Indie authors group to meet Thursday

Indie Authors Network will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the upstairs meeting room at Pine River Valley Bank, 1701 Main Ave.

The group will plan future meetings and speakers to address the needs and interests of members.

Cortez center seeks bird art for show

The Cortez Cultural Center will host its annual birding art show in conjunction with its Birding Festival Monday through May 26. Artists are invited to submit pieces celebrating avian topics to the center at 25 N. Market St. no later than 9 a.m. Monday.

Miniatures club will complete April projects

The Four Corners Miniatures Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday to complete a project members started at the last meeting.

Five varieties of flowers were created from paper including daisies, tulips and daffodils. Each member will design a floral arrangement inside a 1-inch-scale wheelbarrow.

Take a brown bag lunch; beverages will be provided.

Deadline is today for magazine submissions

Arts Perspective magazine seeks a painting and/or photograph of the Animas River for the summer issue to illustrate a short-story fiction piece. It could be something from a portfolio or a new piece and reflect “The River of Lost Souls” or Rio de las Animas Perdidas.

Music in the Mountains tickets are on sale

Tickets are on sale for Music in the Mountains’ 26th season, July 8 through July 29.

This year’s festival will feature orchestra, chamber music and conservatory performances of classical and world music selected and directed by Artistic Director Gregory Hustis and Music Director and Conductor Guillermo Figueroa.

Juried exhibit to open in June at arts center

Artists working in any traditional or contemporary two-and three-dimensional media are invited to enter the 36th annual juried exhibit, which will be held June 8-30.

Deliver artwork to the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. June 5.

This year’s jurors are Phyliss Woods and George Welch. Woods’ professional history and background can be viewed at www.tribalinks.com; Welch’s résumé can be viewed at www.raicestaller222.org/GeorgeWelch.html.

Steamworks Brewing Co. will host a “Salon des Refuses” for those works that will not be exhibited in the Barbara Conrad Gallery. The Arts Center will honor the tradition with a full complement of artwork (two-dimensional only) in the alternate venue. Exhibit dates are the same as for the juried exhibit.
