Buchanan

Longtime Durango resident Joel E. Buchanan died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and coronary artery disease Friday, April 27, 2012, in Durango. He was 64.

He served in the Navy from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.

In 1969, he married Alice Ruth McCurry in Farmington. The marriage ended in divorce. The couple remarried in 1980 in Farmington. That marriage also ended in divorce.

Mr. Buchanan held numerous jobs as a custodian, in food preparation and as a surveyor. He was also a lineman and worked at Mercy Hospital.

“He enjoyed sitting in the backyard, drinking iced tea and listening to music,” his family said, “and just being ornery. He had a passion for stargazer lilies.”
