Ignacio baseball falls in 2A districts

The high school baseball season came to an end Saturday for the Ignacio Bobcats.

Paonia eliminated Ignacio from the Class 2A District Tournament 13-2 in a game at Montezuma-Cortez High School.

“We just didn’t catch the ball (Saturday),” Ignacio head coach Ardie Eleck said. “It caught up to us again.”

Tyler Young and Jesse Vigil drove in Ignacio’s runs against Paonia (14-5-1).

Vigil had two hits for the Bobcats.

“Tyler Young pitched for us, and he threw pretty well,” Eleck said.

Erros, however, hurt the Bobcats, Eleck said.

“After playing so well against Bayfield, it was unfortunate we didn’t catch the ball (Saturday),” the Ignacio head coach said.

The Bobcats finished the season 3-14 overall.
