World Beer Cup awards gold to 2 local breweries

On Saturday, the ninth biannual World Beer Cup held in San Diego recognized two Durango breweries for their exceptional brews.

Steamworks Brewing Co. received a gold award for its Berliner Weisse brew. Additionally, Ska Brewery received a gold for its Steel Toe Stout at the World Beer Cup and at The Great American Brew Festival, which was held in Denver last September.

“These are two of the biggest beer competitions and the Steel Toe won gold in both of them,” Dave Thibodeau, president and co-founder of Ska Brewery, said. The Berliner Weisse, which offers a “dry, citrus finish with a low hop profile,” is currently aging with the expectation to offer the award-winning brew on tap at Steamworks sometime this summer, Steamworks Brewery Co-owner Kris Oyler said.

Steel Toe Stout is on tap and available at all local liquor stores.
