Durango to spray weeds this week
The city of Durango has contracted with Tres Mesas Spraying for noxious weed abatement.
The weed control agents that will be used are Milestone, Escort, Roundup and Pendulum.
Spraying will continue through Thursday.These areas will be sprayed: Animas River Trail and all associated spurs, the city water dock, Dallabetta Park, the entrance to the Dog Park and all trails on and to the park, and all locations behind Durango High School.

Archaeological society to meet Thursday
The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
Patricia Richmond will present Trail to Disaster, her book about John C. Fremont’s fourth expedition in 1848 to find a year-round railroad route from St. Louis to San Francisco through the central Rockies.
His group of 35 men left Pueblo in October and met disaster trying to make it through the Rockies during the winter.
The public is invited.
Mercy to hold book talk Friday
Mercy Regional Medical Center will host a free talk about the book God of Love: An Interspiritual Quest, by teacher and certified grief counselor Mirabai Starr, from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in conference rooms A-B at Mercy. A book signing with refreshments will be held after the talk.

AARP to meet today at senior center
The Durango AARP Chapter No. 1243 will meet at 1 p.m. today at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.
Chiropractor Trapper Niccum will lecture about new frontiers in health and healing and natural solutions for arthritis pain.
Julie Cypher, community outreach specialist, will assist. Members and interested adults are invited.
County announces upcoming road work
La Plata County has contracted for construction of turn lanes at the intersection of County Road 141 and County Road 210.
The work will begin May 14 and is scheduled for completion by July 13. Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane. Delays of up to 20 minutes should be anticipated.

Blue Star Mothers, VFW to honor fallen military
The Blue Star Mothers of Durango and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4031 will honor all of the men and women from Colorado and northern New Mexico who died while serving in the military during the global war on terrorism at 6 p.m. May 15 at the VFW Hall, 1550 Main Ave.
A display of their pictures will be dedicated at the event.
The display will be open for viewing from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through May 20. Retired Air Force Gen. Ronald Fogleman will speak.
