Charlie Laudermilk of Fort Lewis College shot a 4-over 76 on Monday during the opening round of the NCAA Division II West/Central SuperRegional Golf Championships in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Laudermilk, the Skyhawks’ lone SuperRegional qualifier, was tied for 52nd after the first 18 holes at Wigwam Golf Course in the Phoenix area.
Kyle Souza of team-leading Chico State (California) shot a 7-under 65 on the 7,132-yard course to take a one-stroke lead over Jim Knous of the Colorado School of Mines.
Knous, a prep standout at Basalt High School, is a former winner of the Durango Invitational prep tournament at Hillcrest Golf Club.
Chico State took the first-round team lead in Arizona on Monday with a combined 223.
Colorado Mines and Cal State Stanislaus are tied for second at 283.
The tournament will continue today with a final round scheduled for Wednesday.
