A car crashed into the conference room of Zuke’s dog treat company on Main Avenue Tuesday afternoon while two employees were in the room eating lunch.

One employee pulled the other employee out of the way when she saw the car coming in, said owner Patrick Meiering. The woman was still hit and taken to urgent care, but she appears to have suffered only some bruising on her leg.

“If the car would have gone in another 5 feet, it probably would have killed her,” he said. “She got lucky. It’s a little traumatic for everybody.”

The driver appeared to be driving north on Main when he crossed all southbound lanes, drove up the sidewalk, through the flower bed and into the window of the conference room at about 2:15 p.m., Meiering said.

No skid marks on the road, and Meiering believes the driver blacked out or had a seizure.

The Durango Police Department could not be reached for comment.

There were no customers in the shop at the time, and the hole will be boarded until it is fixed.

The driver appeared to be coherent when taken from the scene in an ambulance, Meiering said.
