Charlie Laudermilk won’t be going to nationals.
After three rounds of competition at the Wigwam Resort’s Gold Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz., the Fort Lewis College golfer finished in a tie for 57th with a total score of 229, 7-over par on the par-72 course at the NCAA Division II West/Central SuperRegional Tournament.
Laudermilk shot his worst round Wednesday with a 79 after shooting a 74 on Tuesday and a 76 on Monday.
The top five teams and top two individuals not affiliated with a team, such as Laudermilk, qualified for nationals.
Of the unaffiliated individuals, BYU-Hawaii’s Jon Scolari was best, tied for 12th with a 218 for 2-over-par. Troy Davis of Notre Dame De Namur was right behind him with a 219.
Basalt High School alumnus and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference golfer of the year Jim Knous (Colorado School of Mines) was first with a 7-under 209.
Kyle Souza of Chico Sate was runner-up at 211, and Alex Sobstad of Cal State-Monterey Bay was third at 212.
Cal State-Stanislaus was the top team at 1-over 865, then Chico State at 869, Colorado Mines third at 871, Western Washington fourth at 875 and Grand Canyon fifth at 877.
Laudermilk, a junior, has participated in the NCAA regional tournament all three years at FLC, and he competed at nationals last year in the Skyhawks’ best season as a program.
