BHS staring down Buena Vista

Wolverines’ ace Clay Miller and the Bayfield High School baseball team will stare down No. 24 Buena Vista at Holy Family High School in Broomfield on Saturday as the No. 9 seed in the 32-team Class 3A state tournament.

The Intermountain League baseball champions will hit the road for the CHSAA Class 3A Baseball Championships.

Bayfield High School (13-6, 10-0 IML) was seeded ninth Wednesday in the 32-team Class 3A field. The Wolverines were assigned to the four-team District 2 tournament to be hosted by Holy Family, the No. 8 seed at 14-5.

Host Holy Family will play No. 25 Sheridan (13-6) at 10 a.m. Saturday. Bayfield will face No. 24 Buena Vista (12-7) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family High School in Broomfield.

The tournament championship will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday in Broomfield.

The tournament winner will move into the double-elimination state tournament May 18-19 in Greeley. The eight district winners in Class 3A will be reseeded for the elite eight.

Alamosa, runner-up to Bayfield in the IML, was seeded No. 26. The Mean Moose (8-11) will play at No. 7 Lamar (14-4) on Saturday.

The No. 1 overall seed in 3A is Faith Christian (18-1).

Eaton (16-3) is the No. 2 seed.

Rifle (17-2) is at No. 3, with Hotchkiss (17-2) at No. 4.

Other host sites next weekend include No. 5 Florence (11-8) and No. 6 Brush (13-6).
