Connie M. Demsko

Longtime Bayfield resident Connie M. Demsko died after a long battle with cancer Friday, May 4, 2012, at her home. She was 11 days shy of her 80th birthday.

Mrs. Demsko was born to Stanley and Verna Janaski on May 15, 1932, in Ranshaw, Pa. She grew up there and attended St. Anthony Grade School before graduating from Coal Township High School.

On July 25, 1953, she married Thomas W. Demsko Sr., in Ranshaw.

In 1956, they moved to Anaheim, Calif., where Mrs. Demsko was a homemaker, and the couple raised their four children.

In 1993, the Demskos made the decision to return to small-town living and moved to Bayfield.

Mrs. Demsko enjoyed crocheting, doing needlepoint, reading and playing the occasional round of golf with her husband. She was an excellent cook, her family said, and enjoyed preparing traditional meals for family holiday gatherings.

“Connie discovered St. Bart’s Catholic Church soon after arriving in town and cherished the many friends she made there,” her family said. “Connie never met a stranger. Everyone became her friend, and she always found the goodness in those she encountered.”

Mrs. Demsko was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Demsko Jr., in 2007.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Demsko Jr., of Bayfield; daughters Terri Wise of Durango, Denise Demsko of Bayfield and Kathi Webster of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, which would have been her 80th birthday, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, 1749 County Road 526, in Bayfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Home Health and Hospice, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
