Durango resident Florence Angela Walsh died Saturday, May 5, 2012, in Durango. She was 91.
Mrs. Walsh was born to John and Anna Elizabeth (Dartman) Muegge on April 30, 1921, in Creighton, Neb. She attended first through 12th grades at St. Ludger’s Academy in Creighton. After school, she began teaching in a one-room country school in Nebraska.
After the outbreak of World War II, Mrs. Walsh moved to Washington, D.C., and worked as a “Government Girl” at the Pentagon as a typist and secretary until the end of the war.
After the war, she transferred to a civil service job in Denver, where she met her future husband, Edwin Peter Walsh. The couple married July 8, 1950, in Denver. Mrs. Walsh worked in office temporary services.
Mrs. Walsh lived in Denver until 2010, when she moved to Durango to live with her daughter, Kathleen Briggs.
Mrs. Walsh was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Blessed Sacrament Church in Denver for many years.
She loved to plant flowers. She was a great seamstress, her family said, and she loved making rosaries. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Walsh also enjoyed dancing and water aerobics. At age 72, she became a founding member of the Cactus Stars, a professional line dance troupe that performed at venues in the Denver area for more than six years.
Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Edwin Peter Walsh; son, John Peter Walsh; granddaughter, Laura Walsh; and great-grandson Tiberius Schleicher.
She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Briggs of Durango, Alice Brouhard of Glenwood Springs, Carol Walsh of Carbondale, Judy Walsh of Littleton, Angela Walsh of Fruita and Linda Lujan of Laveen, Ariz.; son, Thomas Walsh, of Castle Rock; brother, John Robert Muegge, of Loomis, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4900 Montview Blvd., in Denver. Cremation will occur, and the ashes will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
